Fjord adventures

A very good alternative to call the booking number for Hurtigruten and book a round trip from Ålesund to Geiranger and back to Ålesund. The Hurtigruten travels the whole length of the coast, but it is possible to do a roundtrip into Geiranger, and see the fjord from a small cruiseship, while sitting indoor, and perhaps having a nice dinner or lunch. 60 minutes from the Apartment in Haugsbygda lies the city of Aalesund. A visit to Aalesund is one of the most unique day trips you will ever experience. It can include both sightseeing tours of the historic town and guided adventures.

The legendary bird island Runde has more than 100,000 birds occupying the island during the nesting season from April to August. Around 80 species nest on the island, and more than 230 species have been registered on Runde overall. You can see the majestic sea eagle all year round, but you have to come between early April and August to see puffins. Every season is a unique experience. Runde has great terrain for walks and a walk to the historical lighthouse and lighthouse keeper's dwelling. You really get a sense of the brute force of the sea in autumn and winter. The Dutch trading ship Akerendam sank one rough winter's night in 1725, loaded with large quantities of coins. Some 250 years later, three divers found what was one of the biggest hoards of coins ever discovered in Europe. You can see some of the coins at Runde Miljøsenter.

Kjeldsund, with roots tracing back to the 1600s, rests like a gem in the Sunnmøre archipelago. Nestled in a picturesque setting, it boasts a beautiful location amidst idyllic surroundings, with a myriad of attractions nearby. The Kjeldsund site has 16 canoes and 4 rowboats (with oars) and stand up paddle for rent. They also have life jackets in many sizes available! Hakallegarden is a charming visitor farm located in Hakallestranda, Åram, Norway.
