Activities, sights and easy-to-reach experiences from Hjellhaugmarka 20 in Stranda.

Close to Stranda’s fjord and mountain experiences

Hjellhaugmarka 20 is a practical base for experiencing Stranda’s mountain-and-fjord setting. From the cabin, you can head toward Strandafjellet for gondola views, skiing and mountain access, or set aside a day for the region’s famous fjord roads and viewpoints.

Strandafjellet gondola and Roaldshorn

Ride the gondola from 400 metres to the 1,042-metre top station for wide views over Stranda, Storfjord and the UNESCO World Heritage Area. In summer, it is an easy way to reach scenic viewpoints and a starting point for hikes; in winter, it connects you to the ski area.

Summer gondola beside the cabin

In summer, the gondola beside the cabin carries you high above Stranda for spectacular mountain and fjord views. Take a gentle walk around the summit, or settle in with a refreshing drink or coffee at the top café before riding back down. It is one of the easiest and most memorable experiences to add to your stay.

Geirangerfjord via Stranda and Valldal

For the quicker route, take the Stranda–Liabygda ferry from downtown Stranda, around 10 minutes from the cabin. Continue toward Valldal and take the Linge–Eidsdal ferry before driving on to Geiranger. The journey is beautiful and typically takes under 1.5 hours including both ferry crossings.

Geirangerfjord sightseeing ferry from Hellesylt

For a longer drive with an exceptional fjord experience, travel about 30 minutes to Hellesylt and board the sightseeing ferry to Geiranger. The crossing travels through Geirangerfjord to the village centre, with English commentary pointing out the sights along the way. We have taken this spectacular trip several times and highly recommend it.
